The Educational Specialist degree is a unique professional degree in the field of education that reflects a high level of knowledge and expertise. The Ed.S. program in Teaching and Learning (Library Media Technology concentration) is intended for professional educators who demonstrate high levels of expertise in their areas of concentration and who wish to develop those areas further and to develop themselves as inquirers, program leaders, and instructional specialists.
The Ed.S. in Library Media Technology is now offered as a cohort program, with students completing 2 courses each semester for 5 semesters. Most classes will meet at the Downtown campus on Monday nights during Spring and Fall semesters, and at various times during the Summer semester. (Note: because of course rotation requirements, students who begin fall semester may not be able to complete coursework in five consecutive semesters.)
Leadership Endorsement
Students who successfully complete the program also earn the Director of Media Centers leadership endorsement (EDCI 8400, EDCI 8960, and ELMT 8150)
National Board Certification
While the Ed.S. program does not prepare students directly for the National Board certification exam, the curriculum is closely aligned with the National Board standards. Students should find their Ed.S. coursework lays a solid foundation of knowledge and skills upon which they can build to pursue National Board certification.
