Teaching and Learning (Ed.S.) - Art Education concentration

MISSION

Students completing the program should be able to: 

  • Communicate clearly about the role of art in a multicultural society 
  • Plan and implement effective art programs in a variety of settings
  •  Apply the psychology of art and learning theory in school and community programs 
  • Provide leadership for professional colleagues through lecture, workshop,and community outreach programs
  •  Supervise and administer the teaching of art in a variety of settings
  •  Execute applied research projects in art education that add to the literature in the field

STUDENT PROFILE
Students in this program are professional educators who demonstrate high levels of expertise in their areas of concentration and wish to develop those areas further and to develop themselves as inquirers, program leaders, and instructional specialists. Students must have 3 years of experience as fully certified educators and be competent studio artists or art historians at the graduate level.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a collaborative program between the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. It includes courses taken in the College of Education as well as courses taken with art education faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is housed in the Department of Middle-Secondary Education and Instructional Technology. Course work culminates in a research project. Enrollment in the program is limited to the number of students who can be effectively mentored by available faculty.
