Teaching and Learning (Ed.S.) - Science Education concentration

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Science Education involves students in coursework and projects that will support an understanding of the practice of teaching science, and the supervision and leadership roles science teachers may undertake in the education of students and peers. The Ed.S. is a unique professional degree in the field of education, reflecting a high level of knowledge and expertise.

National Board Certification

While the Ed.S. program does not prepare students directly for the National Board certification exam, the curriculum is closely aligned with the National Board standards. Students should find their Ed.S. coursework lays a solid foundation of knowledge and skills upon which they can build to pursue National Board certification.

Applicants must have a master’s degree in an area of concentration or have completed the equivalent of a major (18 graduate semester hours) in the area of concentration. It is not necessary to hold a teaching certificate in the area of concentration; however, each candidate must show evidence of expertise and competence in the area of concentration.

This program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework and an exit portfolio.
