Syllabus: Requirements
Course Requirement:
Several mini-projects, assignments, and one exam and one quiz
will be used to assess your performance in the course. The projects
will each involve the development of systematically designed instruction.
Mini-projects will be reviewed in class and some class time will
be devoted to working on them. But, considerable additional time
outside of class will be needed to complete the individual instructional
design project. The final project will take longer than you
think. Don't put it off! Article reviews will ensure
that we are keeping abreast of the most recent thoughts and developments
as related to instructional design. Several readings will also
be prepared for discussion during class. A mid-term exam and final
quiz will be based upon the course goals and objectives.

Project Descriptions and Point Values:
1. Instructional Design Project (100 Points).
This individual project is to demonstrate your ability to implement
the systematic instructional design process for a topic including the following:
objectives, learner analysis, learning sequence (hierarchy), entry behaviors,
test items, instructional strategies and initial formative evaluation.
Specific requirements will be discussed in class.
2. Mid-term Exam (50 Points).
Complete a mid-term examination on instructional systems development
and instructional design.
3. Final "Quiz" (20 Points).
Complete a final "quiz" on the application of the Dick
and Carey instructional design model.
4. Article Reviews/Reflections (20 Points).
Read and summarize two recent professional articles of interest
to you and that are related to the goals and objectives for this
class. Include complete bibliographic data (APA), a brief summary
of the content, and reflective statements regarding its personal
value to you. The reflection portion of the report is most important.
Reviews should be between 3-4 pages. (10 points each)
4. Participation (30 Points).
Participate both in class and Vista discussions as well as complete
assignments on cases, various readings from the text and other
sources. This is a critical element and will be graded subjectively
by instructor's impression of overall student performance in this
area. Both extent and quality of participation in class dialogue
and Vista discussions will determine the score. (Note: There is
no formula for optimal participation. However, no student should
either dominate or abstain during face-to-face or virtual class
meetings.)

Attendance and Participation:
Attendance and Participation IT 7100 is a "hands-on, minds-on" activity-based
course; as such, your participation and attendance in class is important,
and in fact required. Each member of the class will be expected to attend
regularly, participate in class discussions, and work diligently on all
in-class as well as outside-of-class work.. Attendance and participation
constitute a portion of your final grade--and it is the discretion of the
instructor to adjust the value of attendance and participation work from
5% to 100% of the final grade. In addition, it is your responsibility to
obtain any content, knowledge, assignments, etc., missed due to absence
or tardiness from other class members (if they are so willing.)
If the instructor will not be in class for whatever reason (illness,
emergency, etc.) you will be notified as quickly and as conveniently as
possible.

Assessment/Assignments:
All assignments cited in the syllabus must be turned in by the
specified due date (See Course Timeline for details). Due to the
number of assignments, and to facilitate your timely completion
of assignments, late work will not be accepted.
It is expected that you will use appropriate technology tools
to complete all assignments (i.e. no hand written work will be
accepted). Special assignments may be added during a regularly
scheduled class or via e-mail by the instructor. It is your responsibility
to obtain the specifics of any such assignments.
Whenever possible, all assignments will be evaluated and returned within
a week of being submitted. You will also have the opportunity to evaluate
the course two times during the semester: at mid-term and at the end. The
midterm evaluation will enable your instructor to adjust the course as
needed to better meet your needs.
Incomplete grades will not be given for this course unless you suffer
from extraordinary adversity (legitimate medical emergencies, death in
the family, etc.)
The grading scale will be based on the following:
A 206-220
A-198-205
B+193-197
B 184-192
B-176-183
