The Teaching Reading via Distance Learning Program
is designed for those educators who want the State of Georgia Reading Endorsement through an on-line option. Three strands (Understanding Readers and the Reading Process, Linking Literacy Assessment and Instruction, and Instructional Strategies in the Content Areas Across PreK-12) are addressed in separate web-based courses. Assignments involving classroom application are emphasized in each course. The online capacity allows exposure to contact with the instructor, course participants, and experts in the field of reading and literacy via links, video clips, and on-line chat rooms.
Required equipment: 1) a computer with access to the Internet, either by a dial-up connection via a modem (28.8 minimum recommended) or through a network; and 2) access to a web browser, either Netscape 3.0 or higher, or Internet Explorer 4.0 with Java and JavaScript enabled.
Students are responsible for obtaining dial-up Internet access through a local Internet service provider.
