Topic: National defense
Annotation: The federal government has responsibility for national defense, and guarantees to protect the states from invasion and (at the request of the state) from domestic violence.

 

Citation and Text from the Constitution:

Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15
(The Congress shall have Power) To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

 

Article 1, Section 9, Clause 2
The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

 

Article 4, Section 4
