Assignments and Grading

  • Practicing pedagogy - 15 lecture and written reflection - Each student will present a 15 minute lecture, practicing a direct form of pedagogy, on a pre-assigned topic from U.S. history. Each student will also prepare a 4 page written pedagogical critique of the content. The summary and presentation will count 20 points or 20% of grade. (The written critique is DUE the day of the presentation)
  • Social studies planning project - Each student will complete a planning project using the Georgia Quality Core Curriculum. This project will count 10 points or 10% of your final grade. (DUE June 29 )
  • Political ideology on the Web - Each student will select, review, and analyze three web-based political resources for use in a social studies class. This project will count 10 points or 10% of your final grade. (DUE July 6)
  • Instructional narratives - Each student will develop one individual instructional narrative describing in detail instructional ideas developed on a given content topic. The instructional narrative will count 20 points or 20% of your final grade. (DUE July 13)
  • Historical inquiry project - Each student will conduct an inquiry into a historical problem and develop an instructional approach for teaching about this problem. The product will be a 10 page double-spaced paper reporting the findings of your inquiry. This project will count 20 points for a total of 20% of your grade. (DUE July 27).
  • Reflection on readings and participation and discussion facilitation - This course includes numerous readings from selected sources. Most class sessions will include a discussion of selected readings. You will be expected to bring a written reflection on all readings and at least one question which you could pose for the class and must be prepared to lead some portion of any given discussion. Participation in the discussions will count 20 points for a total of 20% of your grade.

Policy on late work - Assignments turned in late may be subject to a grade deduction. A determination will be made based on the reason for the late work and consideration of the student's attendance, punctuality and timeliness in turning in other assignments. If a deduction is assigned it will be a minimum of 10 percent

Grading Scale
100-92 = A; 91-83 = B; 82-74 = C; 73-70 = D; 69-0 = F
