Political
Ideology on the Web
According
to the National Council for the Social Studies, social studies
teachers should facilitate the development of their students'
civic competence. This civic competency infers an understanding
of how to distinguish ideological perspectives embedded in political
literature. Low barriers to web publication and the widespread
availability web-published products have resulted in a wide range
of politically oriented resources. These web-based political resources
have become almost ubiquitous in their presence and increasingly
influential in their use. In this assignment you will select,
review, and analyze three web-based political resources. The specific
requirements for this assignment are below.
- Select
three web-based political resources which could be used in a
social studies class. Please do not select a candidate's website
or one of the political party web sites. Instead, I would like
for you to select from the multitudes of blogs, webzines, news
resources, etc. which are now widely available online.
- Write a
brief one or two paragraph review each of each of these three
resources. In the review,
- summarize
the content (or typical content if it is a daily news or
opinion resource) available on the site and identify the
political perspective or ideology presented on the site.
- consider
how the resource might be used in a social studies class.
Identify the class and grade level and write a paragraph
or two on how you might make use of the resources in a specific
activity.
- consider
how the political perspective or ideology might influence,
affect, or impact students.
This project is due July 06. You may submit electronically, in
class, or in my box on the 6h floor
