introduction to technology in history and social studies

How do we keep
students on task when using the computer?
Keeping students
on-task is one of the most significant challenges to using computers
in the classroom. Without question the best solution for off task behavior
is to make the task authentic and interesting. There are several additional
things to keep in mind.
- Be very specific
with your directions - Because of the lack of structure on the Web,
students should be given as much structure as possible by their teacher.
- Limit searching
- Most searching activities are very time consuming. While students
need to learn search strategies, the history and social studies class
is not always the best place for these experiences.
- Make students
accountable for their actions - If you would like for students to
visit a specific site then require students to use the information
at the site for a clearly stated purpose.
- Additional
tips

Computer Use web page from Intel and answer the following questions.
